Holly Willoughby has been left fuming that she's still not allowed to embrace her best friend Phillip Schofield while at work on This Morning.

The 40 year old, who looked gorgeous in a fresh green floral dress with a grey long coat over it for Monday's show, appeared outside the studios as she kept a two metre distance from Phillip, who donned a white shirt with a black jacket and dark trousers.

"Good morning and happy Monday! Today marks the third step in the government's roadmap out of lockdown, including cautious hugging," the blonde beauty said as she kicked off the programme.

The TV presenter then turned to co-host Phillip, 59, as she asked: "Have you ever hugged cautiously?" to which he responded: "No, I've never hugged cautiously…"

Phillip, who was recently scolded by Ruth Langsford as she called him a "cynic" after he made a dig at Loose Women, continued: "Holly and I will have to wait a little bit longer for our first hug because hugging isn't permitted in the workplace."

Clearly angry over the restrictions, Holly looking away as she fumed: "This is so rubbish! Geographically, we can't hug here."

"Damn it! Well we're outside, but this is still a work place. You know… So, what do you do?" Phillip then said as he gestured around the area before sending air hugs in Holly's direction.

"It won't be long," he added as Holly replied: "It's coming, it's gonna happen."

Although 17 May is the first day that people in Britain are allowed to hug their friends and family, Dr Hilary Jones advised people to proceed with caution by wearing a face mask and facing away.

Later in the programme, viewers were left unimpressed after Phillip snapped at Holly and told her to "shut your face" in a segment about scones.

While Holly and Phil sat in the kitchen with James Martin ready to show off his cooking skills, Holly made a comment about Phillip cutting his scone in half.

As the cameras cut to the pair, Holly asked: “What are you doing? Why…” Phillip then turned to Holly and snapped: “Shut your face! Literally, cut back to you there and you’re giving me a hard time for cutting this and having ready.”

Holly stumbled over her words before she huffed and said: “It’s fine, tuck in, do enjoy.”

As Phillip returned to topping his scone, he added: “I have every intention of doing exactly that. If you put a scon/scone in front of me I am definitely doing it the Cornish way…”

“No butter,” Holly quizzed, which was echoed by James as he said: “Where’s the butter?” Silver fox Phil then added: “No, no, no!”
