Gemma Collins has revealed she took her mum on a trip to London before her parents caught Covid-19.

The 39 year old announced on 22 December that her mum and dad feel "extremely unwell" due to being struck by the deadly virus.

The former TOWIE star explained on The Gemma Collins Podcast last week that it's a tradition for her and Joan to go to London in the days before Christmas to enjoy the festive spirit and shop.

However, with the ongoing pandemic, it hasn't been possible to complete their annual outing in the time frame they wished to. Instead, they headed to the country's capital a few weeks before the big day.

"I love Christmas but this year, leading up to Christmas is always going to be a little bit different because of the pandemic," she told her listeners.

"So I took my mum to London because we always used to go to London on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th and we'd drive home on Christmas Eve."

Gemma, who recently opened up about her struggle with loneliness during lockdown and said she found evenings "tough", continued: "I managed to do that earlier with her and it's a lovely feeling as when I left London I already felt like I'd had my own Christmas.

"Me and my mum had our special little Christmas together."

After revealing the heartbreaking news of her parents' diagnosis with her 2million followers, she urged the public to take Covid-19 seriously and listen to government guidelines.

The GC shared two photos of her parents Joan and Alan, with one showing them smiling for the camera while out for an evening meal, while another showed them posing in front of a Christmas tree with their daughter between them.

"Please please please take notice of the guidelines ! Both my parents are extremely unwell with Covid 19 !" [sic] she wrote in the caption, before revealing her dad even cried over the predicament he finds himself in.

"Seeing my dad cry which he never does ! Was a shock and say he would rather be dead then experience everything he is going through right now… this has totally wiped him out and it’s heartbreaking," she continued alongside a broken heart emoji. [sic]

Gemma, who is reportedly set to make mega money as BBC, ITV and Chanel 4 enter a bidding war, went on: "my mum also is extremely extremely unwell with Covid also, this is real ! [sic]

"And please please take notice and keep your loved ones SAFE [praying hands emoji] it really is petrifying [crying emoji] what a difference a year makes …." [sic]

Before signing off, she made one last effort to ask people to stick to the rules as she wrote: "STAY HOME !!! STAY SAFE !!! SAVE LIFES". [sic]
