Emily Andre on why Kim Kardashian’s 16lb crash diet is ‘dangerous’
As a doctor, Emily Andre knows a thing or two about healthy living, which is why Peter Andre's wife was so shocked when she learned of reality star Kim Kardashian's crash dieting to fit into her Met Gala dress.
Kim was slammed for promoting unhealthy body standards when she admitted to shedding a whopping 16lb in just three weeks to fit into her gown for the big night.
While Emily gives her take and says: "Kim’s already tiny and losing a lot of weight quickly when you’re already slim can be dangerous and can cause issues such as low blood sugar or salt imbalance.
She also adds, "I would never recommend crash dieting to fit in a dress, but there is a lot of pressure on women to look a certain way or be a certain weight, so I have sympathy for that."
However Emily, 32, does add that this extreme behaviour is not typical of the star's approach to diet and exercise.
"She usually advocates a healthy lifestyle, regularly exercises and eats healthily, so hopefully this is a one-off – but it’s not a great message."
Kim, 41, admitted she "cried" when she discovered she didn't fit into the gown – originally worn by Marilyn Monroe when she famously sang Happy Birthday to former US president JFK – on her first try.
She said: "I tried it on and it didn't fit me, and so I looked at them and said give me like three week, and I have to lose 16lb, down today to be able to do this. It was such a challenge, it was like a role, I was determined to fit it."
Kim revealed she went on a drastically strict diet between the try on and the event in order to slim down, cutting out all sugar and carbs.
The reality star also said that after the event she planned to gorge on pizza and donuts to make up for the calories lost.
Meanwhile, as well as discussing Kim's slim down Emily has revealed that she was shocked to discover just how slender screen legend Marilyn Monroe actually was. Typically famed for her curvy figure, the star was actually a petite size eight.
Emily says, "I’ve always thought Marilyn was a size 12-14, curvy and gorgeous."
