Duchess Camilla’s Reaction to the First Pictures of Baby Sussex Is So Sweet
Duchess Camilla and Prince Charles are in Germany for a three-day royal tour, which means they haven’t had the chance to meet their new grandson, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, yet.
But during a walkabout at Saint Thomas Church in Leipzig yesterday (May 8), The Sun photographer Arthur Edwards stopped Duchess Camilla to share photos of her new step-grandson that were just released to the world.
Edwards told The Sun, “As Camilla came out of a church into the square in Leipzig the photos of the baby dropped.” He said he stopped her to ask, “Would you like to see a picture of the baby?” She paused to take a look, then said newborn Archie was “lovely,” before telling Edwards to “show it to the boss”—her nickname for Prince Charles. Unfortunately, Edwards admitted he didn’t get a chance to do that, as the prince was busy with royal duties.
But that wasn’t the duchess’s only delightful surprise of the day. During a walkabout outside of Saint Thomas Church, a fan presented Camilla with a sweet present for Baby Sussex: An extra-large teddy bear wearing a T-shirt covered in hearts that reads “Baby Sussex.”
Johnny Goldsmith of The Mirror also tweeted a photo of Duchess Camilla on Tuesday (May 7), noting that she received a blue balloon that says “Baby Boy” and a package for baby Archie. And German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier surprised Prince Charles with a stuffed teddy bear that same day.
Although Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla have yet to meet their grandson, Charles did share his joy on Monday when the couple landed in Germany. “We couldn’t be more delighted at the news and we’re looking forward to meeting the baby when we return,” he told reporters.
