Donald Trump is already trying to declare victory & wants to stop counting votes

In some ways, this is worse than 2016 and in some ways it’s better. At this point, early Wednesday morning after Election Night 2016, we pretty much knew that Trump had won. This year, the sheer volume of absentee ballots across so many states is the X factor. Going into Election Night in 2016, I think most of us believed that Hillary Clinton would squeak out a win. It was a shock when Trump pulled the win four years ago. This year, all of the data indicated that Joe Biden would win handily in key states. That… hasn’t happened. Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Georgia, Arizona and New Mexico. Just… keep counting the votes.
“Just keep counting the votes” is something Donald Trump disagrees with, though. He did a little Nazi rally at the White House’s slimmed down election party and demanded that states stop counting votes.
Speaking to supporters at 2:20 a.m. Eastern from the White House, President Trump falsely claimed victory in the presidential election and said that he would demand the U.S. Supreme Court stop counting votes. Trump’s remarks capped off an intense, high-anxiety Election Day that sees the president in a close race with challenger and former vice president Joe Biden. He kicked off his speech by baselessly claiming that Republican voters were being disenfranchised.
“Millions and millions of people voted for us tonight, and a very sad group of people is trying to disenfranchise that group of people, and we won’t stand for it,” he said. “We will not stand for it.” Trump continued that he was “winning everything, and all of a sudden it was just called off.” Calling the results so far “phenomenal,” he indicated that he had been preparing to celebrate victory Tuesday night.
“Literally, we were just all set to get outside and just celebrate something that was so beautiful, so good, such a vote, such a success,” he said.
Despite the race still being too early to call, the president nevertheless attempted to declare himself the winner and threatened to enact court action to halt further ballots from being counted.
“Frankly, we did win this election,” Trump falsely asserted. “So our goal now is to ensure the integrity, for the good of this nation — this is a very big moment, this is a major fraud on our nation. We want the law to be used in a proper manner, so we’ll be going to the U.S. Supreme Court. We want all voting to stop. We don’t want them to find any ballots at 4 o’clock in the morning and add them to the list. It’s a very sad moment.”
Trump spent most of his remaining time at the podium insisting that he was ahead in a number of races, claiming with no proof that it was “clear” he had won Georgia and North Carolina, when no major news outlets had called the results in either state.

Yes, Donald Trump is arguing that because he saw some early results in various states, those are the results which should count because he was “winning,” and no more votes should be counted. What’s incredibly upsetting is that millions and millions of people voted for this. They voted for this little baby-fisted despot. The sheer number of people voting for white supremacy, having seen it in action for four years, is beyond depressing.
Anyway, no, Trump doesn’t get to just halt the vote count and go to court. That’s not the way any of this works. Even Ben Shapiro balked.
