Danny Baker apologises after posting monkey picture of ‘royal baby leaving hospital’
The BBC Radio 5 Live host uploaded an image showing a well-dressed man and woman holding hands with a monkey, who was in a suit.
The snap came with the caption: “Royal baby leaves hospital.”
Danny Baker, 61, later deleted the picture, which posted in view of his 501,000 followers, and apologised on Twitter after receiving backlash.
He said: “Sorry my gag pic of the little fella in the posh outfit has whipped some up. Never occurred to me because, well, mind not diseased.

“Soon as those good enough to point out it’s possible connotations got in touch, down it came. And that’s it.”
In another tweet, he wrote: “Once again. Sincere apologies for the stupid unthinking gag pic earlier.
“Was supposed to be joke about Royals vs circus animals in posh clothes but interpreted as about monkeys & race, so rightly deleted.
“Royal watching not my forte. Also, guessing it was my turn in the barrel.”
Explaining what he thought the picture showed, he wrote in response to a Twitter user: “Money & grandeur undercut by a circus turn in a toffs suit.
“The outfit is the joke. Once the racial thing was pointed out to me – I am far from a royal watcher Ty – of course I deleted it. All else is overheated Twitter horse s**t.”
Twitter users were outraged by Danny’s tweet, with some calling him to be sacked from the BBC.
One person said: “Danny Baker posts an image comparing Archie – a Royal newborn with African heritage to an APE. Danny Baker should be sacked by the morning!!!”
Another commented: “Wow that didn’t take long. Royal Baby is just two days old and he’s already being trolled by @5liveSport’s Danny Baker aka @prodnose who has compared him to a chimpanzee… and Baker claims he’s not racist.”
“I wouldn’t expect such a tweet from Danny Baker. Racist or naive? He should be smarter than either.”
TalkRadio presenter, Julia Hartley-Brewer, also commented about Danny’s tweet.
She said: “I want to give Danny Baker the benefit of the doubt, but I’m really struggling to find any reasonable explanation for this tweet, now wisely deleted.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, whose mother is African American, showed off their newborn yesterday and revealed his name to be Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
The Duke and Duchess spoke at a photocall in the grounds of Windsor Castle, where they cooed over their first child together.
Speaking about their new addition, Meghan said: “It’s magic, it’s pretty amazing. I have the two best guys in the world so I’m really happy.”
She added: “He has the sweetest temperament, he’s really calm.”
