Country singer Kylie Rae Harris was drunk, speeding at time of fatal crash

Country music singer Kylie Rae Harris was drunk and speeding when she caused the three-vehicle crash that killed her and a 16-year-old girl in September, police said Thursday.

The 30-year-old “Twenty Years From Now” singer was going 102 miles per hour on a New Mexico highway Sept. 2 when she clipped the car in front of her and careened into the path of oncoming traffic, Taos Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe said in a press release.

She was cruising at 95 mph when she hit an SUV head-on in the northbound lane, killing teen driver Maria Elena Cruz, Hogrefe said, according to the Taos News.

Autopsy reports show Harris had a blood-alcohol content of .28 at the time of the collision — more than three times the legal limit, the sheriff said.

Cruz had no alcohol in her system.

“The now completed investigation supports what we suspected at the time of our initial investigation,” Hogrefe said in the release.

Harris suffered several fractures, including broken skull bones and ribs, a shattered breastbone and pelvis and cuts to her face and legs in the crash, TMZ reported.

The driver of the third vehicle wasn’t seriously hurt.

Harris had a DWI conviction in Texas from 2017 and had been ordered to install a breathalyzer machine in her car.

She’d been touring throughout Texas and the southwest this summer, promoting her self-titled album.
