Corrie’s pregnant Lucy Fallon teases baby’s gender: ‘We know what we’re having’

Actress Lucy Fallon, best known for her role as Bethany Platt in Coronation Street, is celebrating her pregnancy and has revealed she and her partner, footballer Ryan Leadson, already know their baby’s gender.

“We know what we’re having,” says Lucy, 26. “But we’re going to keep it to ourselves. We think it is nice to have something that’s just for us. We had a couple of names for one gender, but it’s ended up being the other one so we need to have a think!”

Because she had a devastating miscarriage in March this year –  saying “it was just a really emotional time” – and has a "high-risk" pregnancy, Lucy is being closely monitored at Omskirk Hospital.

She and Ryan, 25, also waited before telling family members they were expecting a baby this time around.

“Last time, we assumed everything would be fine so we told Ryan’s parents and my parents, so this time we made sure everything was okay before we told anyone else,” Lucy explains.

“Although I did tell my mum straight away! We didn’t want to get too excited, too quickly and get our hopes up."

She continued: "After we had our 12-week scan was when we started to actually talk about it and tell people and be excited about it.

"This time we’ve experienced all the nice things we couldn’t do last time. But I still feel worried and I don’t think you stop worrying. People say you get past 12 weeks and you feel better, but I think it’s something I’m always going to worry about.”

Among the people Lucy has told are some of her Corrie co-stars, who she has remained close with since leaving the soap in 2020, including Colson Smith, who plays Craig, and onscreen mum Tina O’Brien.

“I told Colson pretty much straight away when I was only four weeks,” she says. “Then I went out not long ago with Colson, Tina, Brooke [Vincent], Sally Ann [Matthews] and Ellie [Leech] and told them.”

“Sally Ann was late to the meal so I put the scan picture in her menu. When she got there, Brooke was like, ‘Open your menu now, we’re starving so we need to order.’ She opened the menu and straight away looked at Brooke and gasped.”

“Then she went across the whole table until she got to me. We filmed her reaction and it was so funny when she realised it was me and not Brooke.”

Later this year, Lucy will star in the TV drama Tom Jones, but she hasn’t ruled out a return to the cobbles.

“I’d still never say never to going back,” she says. “I miss all the people. I just wanted to try something different. I’d love to do more dramas and more TV stuff.

"I still want to keep working after I’ve had the baby as I want to do things for myself as well."

She added: "I don’t think having a baby should make you feel like you can’t do things you want to. I feel like I will want to start auditioning again, so hopefully something happens.”
