Colin Kaepernick & Eric Reid Settle With NFL!

Colin Kaepernick has put his grievances against the NFL aside — on paper, at least!

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, along with Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid, have reached a settlement with the NFL regarding their collusion grievances against the league.

While confidentiality agreements will keep the deets of this settlement on the DL, a joint statement from attorney Mark Geragos and the National Football League on Friday confirmed that all subjects are happy with the “resolution” they came to.

The statement read:

“For the past several months, counsel for Mr. Kaepernick and Mr. Reid have engaged in an ongoing dialogue with representatives of the NFL. As a result of those discussions, the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances. The resolution of this matter is subject to a confidentiality agreement so there will be no further comment by any party.”

This news comes over a year after Kaep filed a grievance in October 2017 under the collective bargaining agreement, claiming that the NFL colluded to prevent him from signing a new contract in retaliation for his National Anthem protest.

As y’all remember, the 31-year-old sparked a nation-wide dialogue in 2016 when he knelt during the national anthem before games to protest social injustice and police brutality — an act of defiance that still affects NFL traditions today. He has not been with an NFL team since severing his contract with the 49ers in March 2017.

Reid, who played for the 49ers from 2013 to 2017, was the first player to join the protest. He signed with the Panthers in 2018 and received a three-year deal earlier this week worth over $22 mil.

Last May, the NFL Players Association filed a grievance against the league on Reid’s behalf, claiming that team owners and the league colluded to prevent his employment. The NFLPA on said on Friday that it didn’t know the details of the settlement, but fully supported the athletes’ decision, saying in a statement:

“We continuously supported Colin and Eric from the start of their protests, participated with their lawyers throughout their legal proceedings and were prepared to participate in the upcoming trial in pursuit of both truth and justice for what we believe the NFL and its clubs did to them. We are glad that Eric has earned a job and a new contract, and we continue to hope that Colin gets his opportunity as well.”

Kaepernick didn’t go through NFLPA to file his grievance, but instead hired Geragos, whose previous high-profile clients include Michael Jackson and Chris Brown.

We’ll probably never know how much they settled for — but based on how vague the statement is, it’s safe to assume Kaep and Reid scored big.
