Brits behind-the-scenes chaos revealed as ‘nightmare glitch’ left Sam Smith ‘furious’

Sam Smith was seen performing their hit track Unholy with Kim Petras at the Brit Awards 2023 – but it wasn't all plain sailing for the stars due to a "nightmare glitch", according to a source.

Sam, 30, was believed to be "furious" as their performance at London's O2 Arena was almost cancelled following a technical glitch when their £500,000 set malfunctioned.

The source added that organisers moved Stormzy's performance ahead to cover the issue they were having.

They also aired Adele's 2022 Brit performance so they had time to reconstruct the set for Sam and Kim's time to take to the stage.

"Sam’s performance might have appeared seamless but behind-the-scenes it was a nightmare," the source told The Sun.

"The whole set was built and ready to go but then a malfunction meant it had to be pulled off. Stormzy was moved forward and Sam was told there was a possibility their performance might be pulled altogether."

They shared: "Sam was understandably furious and it was pretty tense backstage.”

OK! has approached Sam Smith's representative for comment.

Sam stole the show in an inflated latex jumpsuit on the Brit Awards 2023 red carpet, before taking to the stage with Kim.

It's been a big ew weeks for the pair, who recently won a Grammy 2023 award for best pop duo/group performance for their track, Unholy.

As they collected their award, Kim said a few words after becoming the first transgender woman to win the accolade.

She said: "Sam, I love you so much and this song has been such an incredible journey for me.

“Sam graciously wanted me to accept this award because I am the first transgender woman to win this award."

The singer also thanked the “transgender legends” who had “kicked open the doors" before mentioning Madonna – who handed the award to them on stage.

Kim said: “I don’t think I could be here without Madonna," as she accepted the gong at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Beyonce, 41, also made history by becoming the most decorated Grammy artist of all time after winning the best dance/electronic music album award for her latest album Renaissance.

British TV host James Corden, who said it was an “honour” to be given the duty, said: “We are witnessing history tonight."
