Comedian Bill Bailey took part in Strictly Come Dancing at the end of last year and won the show with his professional dance partner Oti Mabuse. The 56-year-old actor and musician said doing something that was out of his comfort zone had had a profound effect on him.

The TV star, who is used to performing in front of large audiences, said dancing live in front of millions of viewers every week left him feeling “exposed”.

However, ultimately, the experience had “toughened” him up a little.

Facing the judges is not for the faint-hearted, but Bill went on to impress the experts and won the hearts of the nation.

He made Strictly history as the oldest contestant to have won the programme.

In a new interview, Bill spoke about his life after the show.

“Outwardly, my life goes on. It’s the same. I am still doing comedy.

“But there is something, I think, profoundly that has shifted a little bit as a result of it.

“That’s partly because it’s sort of going out of your comfort zone and doing well.

“But also the experience of it. It toughens you up a bit. I felt incredibly exposed because I was not in my comfort zone at all,” he told The Sun.

Following the end of the series, Bill has kept in touch with Oti, 30, who has since appeared as a judge on ITV’s The Masked Dancer.

He said they had formed a “powerful bond” during their time together in ballroom and Latin dance competition.

The father-of-one has also tried to keep up the dancing.

While on tour in New Zealand, The Never Mind The Buzzcocks star took part in some of Oti’s online dance classes.

On the subject of doing things out of his comfort zone, Bill recently completed a parachute jump.

At the end of June, he jumped out of an aeroplane instead of heading to the Glastonbury music festival, which had been cancelled.

He posted an incredible picture of his jump on Instagram, much to the delight of fans.

“Would have loved to have been at Glastonbury this weekend, so had to seek out thrills elsewhere, in this case at three miles up.

“Thanks @northlondonskydiving for a great day,” he captioned the snap, in view of his 206,000 followers.

“Bl**dy Nora!! That looks amazing. I’d love to have a go, but I’m scared stupid of heights. Well done tho and congratulations on winning Strictly,” one follower wrote in the comments section of the post.

“What an amazing photo!” Another added.

“Bl**dy hell, Bill, don’t do this too often please. My nerves couldn’t stand it,” a third remarked.
