BAFTA’s best and worst dressed through the years
The stars of UK cinema and television come together every year for the most glamorous of British awards ceremonies – the BAFTAs.
With the bash usually held in February, some would think the stars would opt for winter chic – think fur, velvet and warm tones. But some of them haven’t let the weather phase their fashion choices over the years with risqué outfits from thigh high splits to plunging necklines and plenty of flesh on show.
However, some have come prepared for the British weather, like in 2013 when Jennifer Lawrence walked the red carpet with a jacket over her frock.
Deciding between a dress or two piece is never an easy choice, as Naomie Harris showed us in 2017. She couldn’t decide, so she wore both!
We take a look at the BAFTA red carpet fashion from 2012 – who nailed it and who missed the mark, Kate Middleton’s pregnancy fashion to how the celeb women dressed to mark the #MeToo movement in 2018.
BEST DRESSED
2012 – Fearne Cotton
Fearne opted for a fresh summery look in a coral floor length Moschino gown.
2013 – Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway stuns in an all black ensemble and finishes her look with a bold lip and a pixie haircut. She later picked up the award for Best Supporting Actress.
2014 – Oprah Winfrey
Oprah shared a video on Instagram of her getting stitched into her dress before she lost out on the Best Supporting Actress gong to Jennifer Lawrence.
2016 – Dakota Johnson
The Fifty Shades star dared to bare as she went braless on the red carpet. The slinky red dress turned heads flashing everything in the thin material.
2016 – Kate Winslet
Kate walked the carpet in a full length asymmetric Antonio Dorani black gown, and accessorised elegantly with drop earrings and black heels.
2017 – Millie Mackintosh
The former Made In Chelsea star looked stunning in a striking yellow dress. She topped her look with a bold lip, elegant pearl drop earrings and a classy up do.
2018 – Lydia Bright
Ex TOWIE star Lydia embraced Hollywood glamour in a figure-hugging fish tail gown adhering the black dress code in light of the #MeToo movement.
2018 – Kate Middleton
The Duchess of Cambridge nailed pregnancy in 2018 when she was expecting Prince Louis. She defied the black dress code and instead opted for a green Jenny Packham gown. The bespoke dress featured a subtle black sash and she may have chosen green as a nod to Suffragette flag colours, which stands for hope.
WORST DRESSED
2013 – Jennifer Lawrence
JLaw seemed to be feeling the British cold and wore her oversized jacket over her dress and her slick hairstyle failed to frame her pretty features.
2014 – Angelina Jolie
Brangelina made a couple fashion faux pas and wore matching his and hers suits this year giving us flashbacks of their lead role in Mr and Mrs Smith.
2015 – Keira Knightley
The expectant mother usually nailed maternity fashion, but this awkward length Giambattista Valli Couture gown missed the mark.
2015 – Reese Witherspoon
Reese revealed a bit too much plunge in this cleavage baring purple dress back in 2015, and her hair and make up failed to compliment the statement Stella McCartney gown.
2016 – Rebel Wilson
Rebel’s choice of teaming a blazer and a pencil skirt with an uneven hemline made her more suited for a day in the office than the red carpet.
2017 – Naomie Harris
Naomie tried to make a statement in a plunging transparent jumpsuit, which didn’t seem glamorous enough for the high profile awards ceremony.
2018 – Allison Janney
This figure-hugging velvet number could have been a style hit, but the bizarre silver sleeves was a true fashion mishap.
