Anton Du Beke, 54, and Jacqui Smith, 57, took to the dance floor last weekend as the latter made her Strictly Come Dancing debut. The BBC dancing duo performed the Foxtrot to Always Look on the Bright Side of Life which earned the pair 13 points in week one.

Anton and Jacqui joined Rylan Neal-Clark on Strictly’s spin-off show It Takes Two, to discuss their upcoming performance.

The former Home Secretary spoke candidly about her professional dance partner as she praised Anton for his support.

But Jacqui revealed that their rehearsals have been filled with her “swearing” and Anton giving her a “telling off” at times.

Speaking on the BBC Two programme, Rylan quizzed: “You’re in week two of the show.

“Jacqui, tell me you’re loving it?”

She replied: “I’m loving it. I’m living my best life. I couldn’t have a better partner and we laugh all of the time – when I’m not swearing and he’s not telling me off.”

Anton leaned forward and laughed while sitting on the Strictly sofa.

Jacqui continued: “He has been absolutely brilliant.

“I’ve often said, you get to your late 50s and sometimes people think, ‘Is that the end of your adventures?’

“No. This has been a brilliant adventure and I couldn’t share it with a better person.”

Appearing touched by Jacqui’s heartfelt admission, Anton planted a peck on Jacqui’s cheek.

He exclaimed: “You are a rare beauty. I’m going to give you a little…”

Rylan swiftly issued a warning to viewers to not email the show because both Jacqui and Anton are in the same bubble.

It comes as social distancing guidelines have restricted people from mixing with those people outside of their household.

Rylan said: “Because they’re allowed. Don’t email in.”

Jacqui chimed: “Yes, because we’re in a bubble.”

Meanwhile, Anton and Jacqui will be taking to the dance floor at the weekend to perform a Samba.

After receiving the lowest score on the leaderboard last week, the pair will be looking to impress the judges.

The former Home Secretary and Anton will be dancing to Help Yourself by Sir Tom Jones.

Strictly Come Dancing returns Saturday on BBC One at 7.10pm.
