Anne Hathaway Says Her “Les Miserables” Weight Loss Made Her Really Sick

Funny, because most of us were really sick anytime we saw Anne Hathaway out on the press tour for Les Miserables! When Anne was playing Fantine, most of us took it as Oscar bait. Not only did Anne get a G.I. Jane haircut for the role, she also lost 25 pounds. I didn’t know Anne had 25 pounds to lose, and apparently her body didn’t  either. Anne said the weight loss fucked up her body in a big way…but she’s all good now!

People Editor-in-Chief Jess Cagle sat down with Anne recently, and they hashed out both her time co-hosting the Oscars with James Franco (let’s just say she won’t pick up the gig this year since she’s still reeling over James giving her “nothing” even though he convinced her to take the job) and winning an Oscar in 2013 for playing Fantine. Anne annoyed many during her Oscar campaign. Now she’s saying that she wasn’t in her right mind at the time because she basically lost all that weight in two weeks.

“I’d lost an unhealthy amount of weight in two weeks. I didn’t know anything about nutrition. I taxed my body, and my brain bore the brunt of it for a while. I just felt very anxious and very lost at that time.”

I tried to go vegan for two days, and, while the plumbing has never worked better, I’m pretty sure I hallucinated a vision of Beyoncé using her lifetime Popeyes card to get me a three-piece and Mama Bird it into my mouth because I was craving nuggets RULL bad, so I get it, Anne.

She noted how the weight loss was NOT good for the long-term, how she was sick, and how it took a long time to come back from it. She also said she hated how she didn’t even get to enjoy her Oscar win because she was so “full of myself” from turning 30, just getting married, and the weight loss. Don’t fret, though! We got a glimmer of old Anne when she said she was full of herself not in a full of herself way (mmhmm) but just full of all the life changes going on. Luckily for us, she’s an empty shell now, y’all:

“Life went on beyond it. I feel much emptier now. It would have been nice if [winning the Oscar] had happened then, but I’ll still take it.”

And then she twitched and hissed, “Yeah…being…fulfilled is why I lost out on Mary Poppins…right? RIGHT?!
