Alec Baldwin, 63, accidentally shot and killed crew member Halyna Hutchins on the set of his film Rust yesterday. His brother and fellow actor Stephen, 55, has now shared a short statement with his Instagram followers about what happened.

Posting in view of his 109,000 followers on Instagram, Stephen asked for prayers.

He wrote: “Asking for your prayers tonight friends.

“Not much can be said other than please pray for all involved in the wake of this tragic accident. Thank you.”

The incident happened in New Mexico on the set of the film yesterday.

Halyna, 42, was killed when Alec fired a prop gun on the set of his new film.

The cinematographer was taken to hospital but pronounced dead from stomach gunshot wounds.

The film’s director Joel Souza, 48, was also taken to hospital after being injured in the accident.

However, one of the film’s stars, Frances Fisher, has confirmed he has been discharged.

Police were called to Bonanza Creek Ranch yesterday at 1.50pm local time (7.50pm GMT).

A Santa Fe sheriff spokesman issued a statement to AFP news agency, confirming Alec had spoken to detectives about the incident.

They said: “He came in voluntarily and he left the building after he finished his interviews.”

Halyna was an acclaimed director of photography, having previously worked on films like Mad Hatter and Archenemy.

He commented: “I am so so sorry. Rest easy. My love and strength to your family.”

Actor Joe Manganiello also penned a moving response on his own Instagram page after working with her on Archenemy.

He said: “I woke up to the messages and read the news and I am in shock. I was so lucky to have had halynahutchins as my DP on Archenemy.

“She was an absolutely incredible talent and a great person.”

He added: “This is a horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to her family and especially to her son.

“I am so sad today for everyone who knew her and worked with her…”.

Director James Gunn tweeted: “My greatest fear is that someone will be fatally hurt on one of my sets. I pray this will never happen.

“My heart goes out to all of those affected by the tragedy today on Rust, especially Halyna Hutchins & her family.”
