The Rock Shared an Update on ‘Phase 2’ of His ‘Black Adam’ Training

Ever since news broke that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be starring in DC’s upcoming superhero flick, Black Adam, fans have been eagerly waiting to know the inside scoops to the actor’s workout regimen. He has been more than happy to oblige, sharing detailed updates about his training splits as the film kicked off shoots earlier this year—but now, he’s kicking it up a notch.

Johnson shared an update on his “Phase 2” training for Black Adam on Instagram. While filming and production are going well, the actor revealed his diet and workout regimen have been taxing. When he shot the video, he said that he had just finished a cardio session on an empty stomach and was prepping for breakfast and a leg day workout later in the day.

The main goal for his workouts, according to Johnson, are to prioritize definition, muscularity, and conditioning—all of which are meant to help him achieve that superhero look. The particular challenge of this phase is that now he’s in maintenance mode. “And my diet/training is in its 2nd phase right now—which in a sense is the most challenging because I have to maintain this look for months while I shoot the film,” he wrote.

He’s achieved his goal physique, and now he needs to work hard to keep his body right for as long as the film shoots. “As an athlete, this is very challenging because you’re constantly “in the zone” of peaking so it’s quite taxing, but you take it day-by-day and stay sharp, disciplined, and hardcore,” he shared.

Luckily, his longtime strength and conditioning coach, Dave Rienzi, crafted a program for the actor, making it easier for him to stay in shape for the film: “My strength & conditioning coach @daverienzi has built out a very smart, thoughtful and healthy strategy on how we best achieve this goal and raise the bar with Black Adam.”

And, even though it’s challenging, Johnson is willing and ready to go above and beyond, adding that “anything that’s worth achieving is always worth putting in the work and fighting for, so here we go.” Johnson promises to update his fans on his diet and exercise for Black Adam in the future. Stay tuned.
