Wimbledon 2019 – Fans swelter in 26C heat as Andy Murray makes his long-awaited return

TENNIS lovers have descended on Wimbledon in their thousands to watch Andy Murray make his long-awaited return.

The huge crowds were undeterred by the blazing 26C heat as they were seen packing in to the All England Tennis Club on Thursday morning.

Many were seen lying on blankets to soak up the sun as they queued for tickets for today's unmissable games.

No doubt they were all hoping to see Murray play alongside Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the men's doubles, which will air this evening.

The pair will face Romanian player Marius Copil and Frenchman Ugo Humbert.

It will be his first game since he underwent career-serving hip surgery six months ago.

The two-time champion has opted not to play singles as he continues his recovery from the operation.

His men's doubles match is set to be switched to one of the show courts amid security concerns for the amount of people who will want to watch him in action.

Richard Lewis, the All England Club chief executive, said: “One of the major considerations for Andy, first match in particular, will be safety.

“That restricts which courts he can be on.

“Obviously Centre Court and No1 are easy. Once you get beyond those, it’s more problematic.

“After the first match, if the interest dies down, we might have more flexibility where he plays."

But that seemed unlikely as the crowds flooded into the venue this morning.
