Trump’s former press secretary Sean Spicer makes most embarrassing ‘Dancing With the Stars’ debut ever as he salsas in neon-green shirt to Spice Girls – The Sun

FORMER White House press secretary Sean Spicer has made an excruciating debut appearance on US dance show Dancing With The Stars.

Spicer, who became known as a staunch defender of Donald Trump during the opening months of the president's term, wore a neon-green shirt to perform a salsa to the Spice Girls' Spice Up Your Life.

Spicer resigned from the White House in July 2017 amid reported differences with the president, and was announced as a contestant on the show last month.

While in post he became known for outlandish claims often made in defence of the administration, famously responding to photographs showing the president's inauguration had been poorly attended by insisting: "This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period."

Last night's appearance saw him paired with 25-year-old professional dancer Lindsay Arnold, and garnered him a mixed reaction from the judges.

Bruno Tonioli, known to British viewers as a judge on hit BBC show Strictly Come Dancing, said: "What were you doing there? It was like you were being attacked by a swarm of wasps.

"I have no idea.

"Your hip action, it looked like they were set in cement.

"You have to get them going a little bit more."

But he concluded: “I have to say it was strangely entertaining.”

Choreographer Carrie Ann Inaba said: “I’m going to give you Best Fluorescent Shimmy of the night.

“You were offbeat most the dance, but you had fun.”

Len Goodman, also a judge on Strictly, said: “I admire your courage coming on this show.

“And as the others have said, you brought fun to the ballroom.

"Well done."

The performance received an overall score of 12 out of 30 points.

'HE WILL DO GREAT!'

A video interview played before the performance saw Spicer say: "There's no question my time in the White House was very tumultuous.

"I think it gave people a very one-dimensional look at who I am as a person.

"It's been two years since I left the White House and I thought it was finally time to enjoy myself."

President Trump responded positively last month when it was announced Spicer would be appearing on the show.

"Just heard that Sean Spicer will be on Dancing with the Stars," he tweeted.

"He will do great.

"A terrific person who loves our Country dearly!"

Referring to the tweet, Spicer said: "I was honoured to have a tweet put out in my name.

"It's nice to have the leader of the free world on your side when it comes to getting votes."
