AN SAS soldier accidentally shot another in the arm during a mock hostage rescue drill at spy agency GCHQ.

The elite Who Dares Wins pair were meant to be using harmless paintball-style ammo.

But one soldier picked up a gun with live bullets and fired it at his pal.

The man was rushed to ­hospital with an arm wound and is still recovering 12 weeks later, it   emerged. One SAS unit  played  bad guys who  stormed the   base   and took  spies hostage.

The other  aimed to rescue them and regain control of the eavesdropping centre in Cheltenham, Gloucs.

Around 50 spy staff  took part in the late-night drill.  None were hurt and sources  told The Times  that the casualty had body armour protecting his chest.

They dismissed talk of a “fall-out” between GCHQ  and the Ministry of Def ence. One said: “They work together closely and that is unchanged.”
