Pub brings back Britain's cheapest Sunday roast with all the trimmings for just £1

A KENT pub is bringing back Britain's cheapest Sunday roast with all the trimmings for just a £1.

Hundreds of customers enjoyed the bargain meal after the Britannia landlord in Margate "took leave of his senses" and slashed the price of a roast from £7.50 to a quid.

Hungry punters flocked from across the UK – with the pub serving 190 customers one Sunday after the deal was introduced in March.

The demand was so high that landlord Paul Rollins, 66, was forced to end the deal after just four weeks because the business began losing money.

'EVERYONE LOVED IT'

But Paul has decided to bring the dinners back on a once-a-month basis, with 25 people already biting his hand off for a seat on the June 16 return.

The meals, a choice of either beef or turkey, come with a generous helpings of roast potatoes, carrots, green beans, parsnips, stuffing, cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire puddings.

Those looking to tuck into one should book quickly, with Paul only taking 100 covers.

He said: “It was so popular, and it brings so many people to the pub.

Everyone loved it before. We did hundreds while the offer was on and didn’t receive a single complaint, so that says it all really

“We’ve already got 25 booked and we’ve only just put out the advert for it. They’ll get beef or turkey and all the trimmings.

“Everyone loved it before. We did hundreds while the offer was on and didn’t receive a single complaint, so that says it all really.”

After the roasts gained national media attention, Paul had people booking £60 rooms from as far as Bradford, Yorkshire, at the pub’s bed and breakfast just to try the food.

The only catch with the roasts is that diners must spend £3 at the bar to get the deal.

Paul has two cooks sending out the roasts from 12pm to 5pm, and has had to call in extra manpower to help serve them, with three people running the food.

And he believes everyone can benefit from the mouth-wateringly cheap price.

“With this deal, our customers can have some good food, a day out by the seaside and keep a bit more money in their pockets," Paul said.
