Police ‘blundered when up to eight officers flattened lone football fan as he fled violent gang of rival fans’

Police have been accused of heavy-handedness after a video showed six officers flatten a lone football fan trying to run away from a gang of rial supporters.

Up to eight officers were involved in taking down a man while the yobs chasing him flee the scene.

The footage was filmed on Monday night after the Scottish Cup game between Hearts and Partick Thistle in Glasgow ended 1-1.

The video was uploaded by Facebook page Scottish Football Away Days with the caption: ‘Partick Thistle and Hearts fans squaring off last night, police seem a bit heavy handed..?’

Six supporters can be seen swarming around a footage fan as they square off against each other.

As a police van comes into view on the other side of the street, one of the approaching fan swings a punch at the lone fan’s face.

Officers rush over to the lone football fan after he is tackled to the groun

The lone fan continues to back away and is rushed but is knocked to the ground by an officer, who quickly joins in with his seven colleagues.

The football fans make the most of their opportunity to escape and run, with two police officers eventually trying to chase after them.  

Paul Moohan Elder responded online: ‘Useless cop c****, eight guys about to leather one, so they arrest the one, ironically takes eight cops to do it.’

Darren Kelly added: ‘Cheap shot there from the police.’

Davy Barclay wrote: ‘They [police] got the wrong guy.’

Ron Mcgregor said: ‘They tackle the guy being set upon. What the f***? Not the best way to get the public on your side, is it?’

The other football fans are able to escape as police concentrate their efforts on the lone football fan

Stephen Davis added: ‘That’s it go for the one guy and leave the six or seven going for him.’

Nicholas Fraser wrote: ‘Boy done f*** all wrong in that video.’

Scozia Granata said: ‘Well done the smurfs in blue uniform for assaulting the wrong person, yes assaulting because tackling someone like that [who] is doing absolutely nothing is assault!’

Gary Bell added: ‘How the f*** can you arrest the guy walking backwards away?’

Steve McGuinness wrote: ‘That’s ridiculous policing. Eight guys on one so they blind side and take down the one with eight of their own. Can’t condone that. No officer can argue after that arrest they felt in fear for their safety or there was reasonable force.’
