Britain Come Back! New single by pro-EU boyband urges UK to rethink Brexit

Those are the lyrics sung by a new pro-EU boyband on its debut ballad aimed at persuading the UK not to leave the European Union.

The five-member Breunion Boys launched the video for their first single, named Britain Come Back, in Amsterdam this week.

Formed by Dutch animation artist Julia Veldman, the video shows the bandmates walking along the beach on a grey and gloomy day, singing: “You didn’t have a fair choice, you’ve been misinformed, the lies let all of us down.”

“Britain, you’re great, but together we’re greater,” they sing.

Ms Veldman was working on a film in New York when she heard the UK had voted in a referendum to leave the European Union.

Inspired by Take That, Ms Veldman spent a year auditioning band members who believed in the UK’s relationship with the EU.

She said in an interview she couldn’t think of anything better than a boyband – “the best thing Britain ever gave to us” – to prevent Brexit before the 29 March departure.

She says Robbie Williams came from an overwhelmingly Leave-voting region – Stoke-on-Trent – and that she thought by adopting his style the message could be heard in such areas.

The band hopes to tour British pubs to get their message out.

They also insist they have not been funded by the European Union or any political party.

It comes after Dutch politician Kees Verhoeven made a Love Actually-style appeal urging the UK to back Theresa May’s deal or stay in the EU.
