With millions of followers and subscribers worldwide he is now hoping to cross over into the mainstream with a spot on the 2018 series of Strictly Come Dancing. Here's everything you need to know about him.

Who is Joe Sugg and what does he make videos about?

Born in Wiltshire along with beauty queen sister Zoella, Joe was born in 1991.

The YouTube star used to be a roof thatcher prior to his vlogging career, which is where his online name ThatcherJoe came from.

With three different channels, Joe, who began YouTube in 2011, makes videos on varying topics.

His main channel, known as ThatcherJoe for the most part comprises of challenges, pranks and impressions.

Titles of his well-known videos include Ultimate Roommate Revenge Pranks! and Singing Impressions with Conor Maynard, a video in which the YouTube star is joined by pop singer Conor Maynard.

However, he has also branched out and also has a daily video diary channel, ThatcherJoeVlogs and a gaming channel ThatcherJoeGames that both also have millions of subscribers.

Joe currently has a staggering 8.2 million followers on his main channel.

One of his most viewed videos, a collaboration with his sister and YouTube superstar Zoella that involves her applying his make up, incredibly has over 16.5 million views.

An emblem of his success, Joe won the Radio 1 Teen Choice Award for the Best British Vlogger in 2015.

YouTube isn't the only area of social media where Joe has found fame, his Twitter profile has 5.54 million followers, while his Facebook page has 2.45 million.

When was Joe confirmed for Strictly 2018?

On August 13, 2018, Joe confirmed he would be on Strictly Come Dancing 2018.

He announced he was taking part on when he appeared on BBC Radio 1 Breakfast show with Scott Mills, following weeks of speculation.

Speaking about taking part, the star – who is the first YouTuber to get a coveted spot on the BBC show- said: "I'm honestly so chuffed to be involved in the show this year!

"Not going to lie, I'm very nervous about it, it's totally out of my comfort zone and I know it will be a huge challenge but that's what life is all about I guess."

Gearing up for the new series, he told the BBC: “My knowledge of dance isn't the best, so I'm just going to go into it completely open minded.

“I do feel pretty nervous about it. I just hope they have child sizes as I'm tiny!”

Joe is paired with Dianne Buswell.

What other work has Joe done?

Much like many of his fellow YouTubers, Joe's work is not limited to video-making.

In 2015, Joe appeared in the film Joe and Caspar Hit the Road alongside flatmate and YouTuber Caspar Lee.

The pair also had cameo voiceover roles as seagulls in the recent cartoon The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.

Aside from films, Joe Sugg is the author of the graphic novel Username:Evie that was published in 2015.

The book was so successful, that a sequel is due to be published later this year entitled Username:Regenerated.

When is Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One?

The celebrity contestants and their partners have been battling it out on the dance floor week after week, and have now been whittled down to four finalists.

The live final will air at 6.30pm THIS Saturday (December 15) on BBC one.
