Who is Duncan Radfield in Coronation Street who plays him and how did he get Sally Metcalfe jailed?

But who is he, who plays him and what is the deal with him and former mayor of Weatherfield, Sally Metcalfe?

Here’s everything you need to know about dodgy Duncan…

Who is Duncan Radfield in Coronation Street?

Duncan Radfield was introduced to viewers in June 2018 when he visited mayor Sally Metcalfe to thank her for saving his daughter Olivia from prison after Sally’s daughter, Rosie Webster, discovered Olivia was being used as a drug mule by Rosie’s ex-boyfriend.

Duncan then told Sally that Olivia was still grieving for her mum, May, who’d  recently died of a stroke.

He told her how he’d set up a charity in May’s memory but had missed the grant application deadline because he was too busy sorting his dead wife’s stuff out.

Sally was moved by his story and told him she’d support his application.

Duncan was next seen on screen when Jack Webster was rushed to hospital suffering from sepsis.

He overheard Sally talking to her husband Tim about how her mayor duties were getting in the way of her supporting her ex-husband Kevin, Jack’s dad. Tim suggested Sally hand over choosing the charity to someone else.

Later Duncan approached Sally and manipulated her into staying in charge of the charity grant and Sally agreed she’d see it through.

Duncan then arrived on Coronation Street shortly after and delivered a huge bunch of flowers to Sally but she said his gift might look like he’d bribed her as she’d decided to give him the charity grant.

It was discovered by Sally’s sister Gina Seddon that May, Duncan’s wife, was still alive.

On January 11 2019 Duncan was hit by a lorry as he argued with Tim on the street.

How did Duncan get Sally put in prison?

After Duncan found out that Sally had decided to give his charity the council grant of £40k, he visited Sally again and told her he’d found some cheap rehabilitation equipment for the charity.

He encouraged her to pull some strings and get the money paid into his personal bank account so the charity didn’t miss out.

But when the money went in, Duncan disappeared. Sally had been conned.

Duncan was then very clever as he had already set Sally up to be implicated in the fraud if he was caught.

He’d transferred money into her account which Tim spent and even planted a secret burner phone at her home.

When he was apprehended by the police, he told them Sally was the one pulling the strings and that they’d defrauded the council together and were having an affair.

Sally was arrested and charged. She was initially released on bail but after being held in contempt of court at her plea hearing, she was held on remand.

At her trial Duncan continued to lie about Sally’s involvement and their affair. He was so convincing even Tim began to believe him.

Eventually Sally was found guilty and sentenced to four years in prison.
