Tim Lovejoy’s rival Andi Peters was meant to host Sunday Brunch before he took the job, Tim tells Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show

SUNDAY Brunch star Tim Lovejoy reveals he replaced Andi Peters as host of the popular Channel 4 show.

Appearing on the Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show today Tim told how he was drafted in to front the pilot episode – and hasn't looked back.

Explaining how he landed the gig, Tim said: "I was called into the BBC and they said 'we've got this show for you. We're not sure you'll want to do it, but this bloke in the office thinks you'll be good for it.

"'We've lost our presenter, who was Andi Peters. There's Simon [Rimmer] and Amanda Hamilton [former co-star], just see how you get on with the pilot.'

"The show was there, I just chipped up at the end and we just met, got on and it was brilliant. And I was like, 'I'd love to do that'."

Missing out on the long-running Sunday Brunch job hasn't affected Andi too much though, with the TV veteran regularly appearing on Good Morning Britain and sitting on a reported fortune of £3million from his years in the telly business.

Tim shot to fame as the face of Soccer AM which he hosted from 1996 to 2007 alongside Helen Chamberlain.

The father-of-three participated in the 2011 series of Celebrity MasterChef and reportedly has a net worth of £1.6 million from over 20 successful years in television.

In addition to his work on Sunday Brunch, he also hosts BT Sports Panel on Saturdays, a format similar to his days on Soccer AM.

As well as his television career, Tim is also a published author and co-wrote two cooking books with co-star Simon and his own biography on football.
