'Southern Charm': Thomas Ravenel Puts $3.9 Million Plantation On the Market Amid Ongoing Custody Battle

Once-politician and Southern Charm star Thomas Ravenel might not be on-camera anymore, but he still lurks in the background of Bravo’s show. Booted from Southern Charm after being accused of sexual assault and a second-degree assault and battery arrest, Thomas Ravenel has been battling Kathryn Dennis for custody of their children since 2016.

Dennis recently revealed that court costs have forced her to move out of her expensive rental, but it looks like she might not be the only one feeling the financial strain. Ravenel might be struggling to live his usual lifestyle among the fees piling up around him. He’s just listed his $3.9 million plantation on the market.

The custody battle and Ravenel’s sexual assault scandal

Since 2016 the Southern Charm couple has been duking it out for custody of their two children, Kensie and Saint. At first, Kathryn Dennis lost custody of her kids. She failed a court-ordered drug test and shipped out to California for rehab. Upon returning, she received 50/50 custody with Thomas Ravenel.

Since then, Ravenel has been accused of sexual assault. After settling out of court for $200,000 dollars in a previous sexual assault scandal, this one seems to be sticking. A former nanny for Ravenel’s children, Dawn Ledwell, accused Ravenel of assaulting her in his home’s nanny room.

“I was outraged because I found out then that I was not an isolated incident. I had blamed myself, like many victims do, [but I realized then] that it wasn’t my fault. It was his fault. He’s the perpetrator,” explained Ledwell.

According to Ledwell, Ravenel “approached [her] without any hesitation and attempted to kiss [her].” Ledwell added, “It escalated from there where he wouldn’t take no for an answer. Although it wasn’t penile penetration, what he did do was identified by the law as first-degree forcible rape.”

Kathryn Dennis dishes on financial woes

While the ongoing court case has taken a mental toll on Southern Charm star Kathryn Dennis, she’s made it apparent that it’s also been taking a financial toll. In fact, Dennis was recently forced to move out of her $6,600 Charleston rental, into what she calls a more “modest” home.

In an interview with People, Dennis said, “Currently, I’m renting because the custody thing, I don’t want to spend a large amount of money on anything yet. I’m now meeting with an accountant, I’m working towards building my credit.”

Dennis went on to say, “The custody case is costing me a lot financially, so I’m having to adult officially in every way.”

It looks like Thomas Ravenel is next

Now it looks as if Thomas Ravenel is having to face up to the financial music. The ex-Southern Charm star put his Charleston plantation on the market for $3,950,000. Ravenel has lived in the home for 13 years, having bought it in 2006.

The historic estate lies on Edisto Island, covering roughly 60-acres of land, with the main estate totaling roughly 4,284 square feet. With four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, a private two-bedroom apartment, an eight-acre polo field, and a two-story horse barn, calling this estate luxurious is an understatement.

Meanwhile, Kathryn Dennis has announced plans to eventually build her own home, a place where she says she’s eager for her and her children to put down roots. Dennis seems to be taking her change in living arrangements in stride — will Thomas Ravenel be able to do the same?
