Emmerdale's Asan N'Jie and Corrie's Katie McGlynn look cosy at the NTAs following her recent break-up

Our pictures show the 25-year-old actress, who plays Sinead Tinker, and Ellis Chapman actor Asan with their hands all over each other at the telly awards.

Katie is single after splitting from her holiday park sales rep boyfriend Benji Roberts at the end of last year, as The Sun Online revealed today.

But sadly for fans of inter-soap couplings everywhere, there is not likely to be any romance between her and Asan following the touchy-feely encounter.

Katie's rep told us the pair have been old friends ever since their days on Waterloo Road nearly a decade ago.

She played tearaway schoolgirl Scout in the BBC school soap, while Asan was Neil – and the agent insists they were catching up at the NTAs, rather than hooking up.

However, the pair are certainly close, with Asan putting his arm around Katie and her holding his jacket while they chatted.

They appeared to be having a very animated chat, with Asan laughing as he leaned in before he held her round the back and ducked his head down.

The Sun revealed today how Katie's romance with boyfriend Benji came to an abrupt end after things begun to "fizzle out".

An insider told us: “Katie and Benji were really smitten when they first met and enjoyed a bit a whirlwind romance to start with."

They added: "Things just started to fizzle out towards the end of last year and they made the mutual decision to split.

"It was all very amicable and they are still friends. Katie is just concentrating on her massive storyline at the moment."

Corrie's Sinead is currently at the centre of a heartbreaking plot as she battles cancer and fears for her newly-born son.

In recent episodes Sinead and husband Daniel Osbourne learned the cancer had worsened and that immediate radiotherapy was needed.

There was certainly plenty for the soap stars to discuss about the awards in their smoking-area debrief, with Asan having the most to celebrate of the pair.

It was a stellar night for Emmerdale, which won Best Serial Drama – and Asan posted several pictures of him posing alongside the iconic twirly award.

However, Corrie missed out on not just that big prize, but two of its stars also failed to land individual awards.

Alexandra Mardell, who plays Emma Brooker, lost Best Newcomer to Emmerdale's James Moore while Jack P Shepherd was pipped to Outstanding Serial Drama Performance to EastEnders' Danny Dyer.
