Coronation Street horror for Rita Tanner as kidnapper Rick Neelan returns

The evil loanshark – who is played by actor Greg Wood on the ITV soap – infamously kidnapped Rita on her wedding day in 2012.

A source told Digital Spy: "Rick will be coming back for a few months and will be up to his old tricks by terrorising some of the local residents.

"Viewers will have to stay tuned to find out who he'll be targeting this time, but it's safe to say that it's never good news for the characters when Rick is around."

The villain first arrived in Weatherfield in 2009 when he was approached by Gail Platt's then husband Joe McIntyre for a loan to pay off other debts.

But when Joe struggled to pay the interest of the loan shark, he was distraught when he began turning up the pressure with threats towards Joe's daughter Tina.

When Joe accidentally died in a failed attempt to fake his death to clear all of his debts, Rick targeted his daughter and widow for the money.

He tried to burn down Tina's house with her inside as revenge for her not paying the debts.

Rick later returned to the cobbles in 2012 when Terry Duckworth took out a loan and failed to repay it.

He forced Terry's son Tommy to carry out criminal activities to clear the debts, but Tommy's girlfriend Tina stood up to him, and he then took the drastic action of kidnapping Rita on her wedding day.

He subjected her to a terrifying ordeal where he took her to a canalside and threatened to drown her in the water, forcing Tina to save her friend.

Greg later went on to win a role on Hollyoaks as villain Trevor Royle until he was killed off in 2016.
