Man City line up £52m transfer bid for Florentino Luis from Benfica as long-term Fernandinho replacement

MANCHESTER CITY have reportedly been watching Benfica star Florentino Luis.

And Pep Guardiola is believed to be considering making an offer for the 19-year-old defensive midfielder.

That’s according to The Guardian, who claim the Portuguese teen has a £52million release clause in his contract.

But Benfica seem determined to fight interest in Luis and are attempting to convince the youngster to sign a new deal.

If that fails then at least double the money they are in line to receive for him.

Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on Luis and have had at least one offer rejected already.

Now it seems City are leading the chase for the ace as they look for a long-term replacement for Fernandinho, 33.

They already captured Ante Palaversa, 19, from Hajduk Split for £7m back in January.

But their scouts have been watching the U20 international for some time and have been impressed with what they have seen.

Lisbon-born Luis has been at Benfica since 2010 and has shot through their academy.

He made his senior debut for giants in February and is under contract until 2023.
