Liverpool condemn behaviour after fan pushes Barcelona locals into fountain and six are arrested for alleged assault

LIVERPOOL fans have been filmed pushing locals into a fountain in Barcelona.

Hundreds of Reds supporters were enjoying the sunshine and beers in the Catalan city ahead of tonight's Champions League semi-final.

But the festivities appeared to get out of hand with one supporter rugby tackling a local headfirst into the fountain at Placa Reial square, as captured on video.

The sunned local hits the water, which is only a few inches deep and appears completely shell-shocked.

A separate video shows another man being shoved into what appears to be the same fountain.

A fan standing nearby calls the drenched victim — who appears to be Asian — "Mr Miyagi".

Dozens of fans laugh at his misfortune, as he walks away drenched, checking if his mobile phone still works.

According to Mundo Deportivo, six Liverpool fans were arrested after two workers at the hotel on the square were allegedly assaulted and needed medical attention.

BEERS CONFISCATED

The Spanish publication also claims cans of beer were thrown at police and they began confiscating alcohol containers — of which an estimated 3,000 had been sold.

One Liverpool supporters' Twitter account said: "Here is the 'Liverpool fan' who tripped a Barcelona local into the fountain.

"Vile behaviour and not what the club is about at all.

"Think @LFC should attempt to take this further, he doesn't represent our fan base."

Liverpool statement

LIVERPOOL Football Club is working with Merseyside Police and the authorities in Spain, who are endeavouring to identify those involved in the incident.

Such behaviour is clearly totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

It would be inappropriate to comment further while the situation is ongoing other than to confirm the club will follow due process in any and all cases of this nature.

Liverpool CEO Peter Moore said: "We proudly sing that we've conquered all of Europe.

"But let's treat this beautiful city with the respect that it deserves, and act in a manner that's befitting of LFC.

"By all means have a good time, but we are Liverpool, and as such, let's visit here with grace and humility."

Some of the Reds faithful have slammed the local police for "hugely over-reacting" to the situation and fans were not impressed as Placa Reial was "cordoned off."

One supporter said: "They were batoned up in crash helmets. Everyone in the square was having a good time.

"They rushed and batoned people for no reason. I would be shocked if I hadn't seen Spanish policing of football before."

Just under 5,000 fans will attend the last four of the Champions League tonight, with Jurgen Klopp's side tipped to push the Catalan giants closer than Manchester United did in the last round.

Liverpool smashed FC Porto 6-1 on aggregate in the last eight to tee up tonight's blockbuster tie that sees Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez come up against their former club.
