Eddie Hearn slams Tyson Fury’s wrestling skills but admits WWE move is ‘great exposure’ ahead of Deontay Wilder rematch – The Sun

EDDIE HEARN claims Tyson Fury’s wrestling abilities are “terrible” but admitted his WWE antics are “great exposure” ahead of his rematch with Deontay Wilder.

The Gypsy King firstly had to be restrained by security after he squared-up to Braun Strowman at ringside during an appearance on last week’s SmackDown.

After becoming the No.1 social media trend worldwide, Fury followed that up by appearing on Monday Night Raw to demand an apology from the Monster Among Men.

However, Strowman was in no mood to say sorry and the two began trading blows before they were eventually separated by a large number of WWE superstars – although Cesaro did feel the wrath of the British boxer’s fist as he was KOed.

Fury, who is aiming for a February 22 rematch against WBC champion Deontay Wilder, will now attend a press conference in Las Vegas on Friday where it is expected to be confirmed he will take on Strowman at WWE’s Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia on October 31.

His venture into the squared-circle has got everyone talking – even his rival Anthony Joshua’s promoter Hearn.

And even though the Matchroom chief mocked Fury, he did accept his wrestling foray was good for the boxing.

Hearn told AB Boxing News: “Terrible, terrible, you know like when you do that pretend punch, but he’s obviously just rolled into it, he’s character and he’s perfect for stuff like that.

“I don’t think his wrestling was very good but I thought it was great exposure for him.

“That’s what you want, when you’re promoting, the idea is to try and push your profile to non-boxing fans for people that might be interested once they’ve seen it.

“I don’t think anyone knew who he was, but they do now.”

Hearn continued: “I’ve seen the comments about Tyson Fury, ‘it’s a disgrace,’ ‘he made a right idiot out of himself,’ but he knows what he’s doing.

“You’ve got to look at the bigger picture, because look, their [Deontay Wilder and Fury] fight did 150,000 buys [PPV], it should be doing five, six, or seven hundred.

“So how do you do that, you bring in that casual audience.”
