Chelsea star Hazard admits storming off during Belgium match to get a burger – and says it made him a 'legend'

CHELSEA star Eden Hazard has admitted he once stormed off during a Belgium match to get a burger – but revealed the bizarre story has since made him a "legend."

The Stamford Bridge star is famed for being one of the most nimble players in the Premier League but was once accused of being greedy, on and off the field.

The 28-year-old is currently Belgium's captain and was instrumental in guiding the Red Devils to a third-place finish at last summer's World Cup in Russia.

However, an overreaction to being subbed when he was a youngster almost spelt the end of the Chelsea winger's international career.

In 2011, a 20-year-old Hazard had earned his spot in the national team's game against Turkey in a Euro 2012 qualifying match after impressing at Lille.

With half an hour still to play, manager Georges Leekens decided to sub the future Blues star who reacted furiously by storming past his coach as he left the pitch.

Eden Hazard is the greediest member of Belgium’s current squad

Hazard even left the stadium while the match was still playing and was later pictured eating a burger at a fast food restaurant in Brussels with the rest of his family.

The shocking pictures were splashed across newspapers in Belgium causing Leekens to dish out a two-game suspension for the star's unprofessionalism.

Now that Hazard has learnt the values and responsibilities that comes with being a top player, he can see the funny side of the story that is still retold in the dressing room.

When asked on what sauce was in the famous hamburger, he told RTBF: “It was Andalusian, it has always been my favourite sauce.

“I have some pots in London, I ask Mom to bring me back every time she comes.

“That night, I did a stupid thing but the story of the hamburger, we talk about it in a joke, it's in quotation marks what makes my legend with the selection [of Belgium].”

Despite his slight frame, the 5ft 8in star was once exposed as being the greediest member of the squad when it comes to food by the Belgian national team chef.

Speaking to the Sun, Wym Casteleyn said: “It’s not necessarily the biggest lads who eat the most. Eden Hazard is the greediest member of Belgium’s current squad.

“Romelu Lukaku, who is very sturdily built, takes great care about what he eats. He’ll have a lot of fruit and pasta.”
