Best horse racing tips for today's action at Newbury, Lingfield, Doncaster and Newcastle from Tom Bull

The incoming rain will be a nice tonic to a few of my selections, though let's hope it doesn't pour too much before Prestbury in a couple of weeks!

Newbury

3.25 Emitom – Warren Greatrex's potential superstar comes here rather than taking on the big guns a the Cheltenham Festival.

You can understand the trainer wanting to take his time with the son of Gold Well – he's looked very useful on all four starts thus far and is still a big baby.

The rainfall will more of an advantage than a hindrance and on all form so far he's the one to beat.

His November thrashing of Lisnagar Oscar now looks very strong and although he has to give weight away, so does his main rival.

He can take another step up the ladder here.

Lingfield

2.30 Shake Me Handy – Produced a lovely performance on his second outing, just going down to a smart one.

He finished five lengths clear of the third that day and must have a big run in him returned to this course and distance.

Adam Kirby gets the leg up and he can see off main rival Tiger Eye, who has to give weight away.

Bully's Friday Bankers

2.30 Lingfield – Shake Me Handy

3.15 Doncaster – Away For Slates

3.25 Newbury – Emitom

7.30 Newcastle – Solar Park

Doncaster

3.15 Away For Slates – Comes into this race in top form, having won his latest start in fine style.

He carries a 7lb penalty for that success but should have more to come under these conditions on just his third start over fences.

His three rivals aren't in great nick and this should be his for the taking.

STRIKE ACTION Arc could be hit by three days of boycotts over poor prize-money

Newcastle

7.30 Solar Park – James Tate's colt has the look of a real improver, having won his maiden last time by 13 lengths.

That was obviously a weak race but he was visually quite impressive and there's definitely more to come from him before the end of the winter.

The drop back to six worked well recently and keeping him at that distance could unlock further improvement.
