Arsenal and Liverpool join Man Utd in £15m transfer race for Ben Godfrey from Norwich… but they could all lose out to Lyon
NORWICH star Ben Godfrey is wanted by Lyon in a £15million deal this summer – joining Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool in the race for his signature.
The defender, 21, has impressed for the Canaries – who are on the verge of winning promotion to the Premier League – this season.
SunSport understands Lyon sporting director Florian Maurice and his recruitment team have watched Godfrey’s last six games.
Yet Lyon will face a fight for Godfrey’s services with Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and German side RB Leipzig also tracking the highly-rated centre-back.
He has three years remaining on his Norwich contract.
But French giants Lyon, who are third in Ligue 1, plan to table a big-money bid as soon as their season ends next month.
EURO PULL
They hope the lure of Champions League football will sway Godfrey.
The York-born ace has made 34 appearances for Daniel Farke’s side, who could win promotion to the Prem – depending on results – this Saturday.
Norwich could have tied up a spot in the top-flight last weekend – but slipped to a thrilling 2-2 draw at Stoke.
Onel Hernandez had given Norwich the perfect start after scoring in the 24th-minute.
But that strike was cancelled out by an Ashley Williams goal moments after half-time.
Teemu Pukki put the Canaries ahead once more in the 66th-minute – only for Tom Edwards to pull Stoke level for a second time just two minutes later.
Elsewhere, David McGoldrick got Sheffield United off to a flier as they stormed to a 3-0 victory away to Hull.
Fellow title rivals Leeds then slipped to defeat against Brentford – in what looks to now be a two-horse race for the Championship crown.
