Revealed: The Touching Reason Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Were Late for a Recent Event
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were recently on hand for the Endeavour Fund Awards, but did you know that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were late to the event? The reason for their tardiness and the subsequent delay of the event turned out to be very touching.
What are the Endeavour Fund Awards?
On the day of the event, February 7, Kensington Palace tweeted about the special awards ceremony. The official Twitter account noted: “Tonight at the #EndeavourFundAwards The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will celebrate the achievements of injured or ill service personnel who have used sport and adventurous challenge as part of their recovery and rehabilitation.”
The couple were late for a very important reason
The royal couple had a very good reason for being late to the event — they were taking time to meet with the mother of a special forces member who had died by suicide last year.
The soldier’s mother, Viv Johnston, explained how the meeting with Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan to discuss her son Danny before the awards ceremony meant so much to her.
In an interview with The Mirror, Johnston shared how the special meeting came to be, noting: “
She continued: “I was amazed, a bit nervous but very
excited. We were shown to a private room and Harry and Meghan came in. They
were absolutely wonderful.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were in no rush
Johnston shared the details of the conversation, explaining: “We chatted about the problems of PTSD and Harry said that he would like the D dropped from PTSD. He doesn’t think it should be referred to as a disorder because that description lays the blame on to the sufferer.”
The couple took their time speaking with Johnston, with the
military mom noting: “Three very panicked blokes came in at one stage and said
‘Sir, we have to go, people are waiting’ and he said ‘well, I’m talking’, and
we carried on chatting.”
Johnston further praised Prince Harry and Markle, sharing: “He was very knowledgeable about PTSD, it is a subject he obviously understands well. Meghan was very nice to me and wanted to know how I had been coping.”
Overall, Johnston was very pleased with the time the Duke
and Duchess took to speak with her. She shared: “They were both very interested
in seeing how veterans and serving personnel with mental health issues can be
helped. Harry was also very sympathetic to what is currently going on with
veterans and the problems of suicide.”

Meghan Markle wears special bracelet to the event
Fans of Markle might have noticed she wore a special wristband at the awards event. The bracelet supports the All Call Signs veterans’ mental support charity that was set up after Johnston’s son’s death.
Johnston explained: “They were both so genuine and were really sad to hear about what happened to Dan but they were also really interested in the All Call Signs organization. Harry wanted to know why and how it was set up and how the organization worked.”
She added, “I explained that it was an early-warning system
to get vulnerable veterans or service personnel who go missing to be found
quickly and he said he thought it was a great idea.”
Johnston further explained: “I then asked if he would like
an All Call Signs wrist band. I expected someone to take them away once I
handed them over but both he and Meghan smiled, said thank you and put them
straight on.”
