MasterChef The Professionals judge Monica Galetti has hit back at critics of the show for featuring an all white, male final, saying it’s ‘insulting’ to her.

The BBC Two cookery show has been slammed by viewers on social media in recent weeks over its perceived lack of diversity. It is the fourth time in six years that all the finalists have been white men on the cookery show.

However, judge Monica Galetti issued a scathing response on Twitter to the criticism, telling one viewer they needed to ‘check themselves’ before making ‘s*** up’.

Top chef Monica Galetti issued a strongly worded response to a critic who had suggested that MasterChef The Professionals isn’t diverse enough; the show features an all white male final for the fourth time in six years in 2018

Last night’s show saw the four remaining contestants – from 48 at the show’s beginning – praised for their skills

After user @jok4p wrote: ‘It’s really rather hard not to point out how the masterchef finalists are all men…White men! #racist #sexist’

Respected chef Galetti, 43, fired back: ‘Are you referring to me in this tweet? As one of the Chef judges on Mastercheftheprofessionals that is coloured and a woman I find this insulting.

‘Check yourself… and maybe use your voice to stand up for something that really needs it, not making up s*** that isn’t true.’

The row continued as @jok4p turned her attentions to the equality issue, asking Galetti, who was born in Samoa and owns a restaurant in London’s Soho: ‘Hi Monica, you just suggested I should “check myself” and use my voice for other stuff so thanks 4 assuming all these nice things about me.

‘The argument is exactly the same as the one with the Oscars 2 years ago. I hope you understand how I came to point out the very obvious. Good day.’

‘Are you referring to me?’ Monica Galetti responded that she was insulted by the tweet about diversity and equality

Last night’s episode of the show saw the remaining four finalists facing the Chef’s Table challenge, in which some of the world’s best chefs gather to dine…with the finalists providing the food

Clearly upset, Galetti hit back again, saying: ‘You are one bitter lady. For the record I’m not paid by BBC. Equal pay is where we are at & having same agent as a co presenter makes sure of this.

‘Please stop now…I have better things to do and you have such negative energy it’s like spreading poison. I hope you find peace.’

The build-up to the final has been marred by accusations from viewers that the show frequently features an all white male line-up in the final of the competition.

Since the show began ten years ago in 2008, just two women have won MasterChef the Professionals, Claire Lara in 2010 and Keri Moss, who was awarded the title jointly with fellow contestant Anton Piotrowski, in 2012.

However, the programme’s makers have defended the show saying all the chefs progressed only on merit.

Speaking about last week’s semi-final, a MasterChef the Professionals spokesperson said: ‘The final eight chefs in last night’s line-up was diverse, and as fans of the show will know the chefs who cook the best dishes on the day go through to the next round.’

Last night’s final saw just four chefs remain from the original 48 – as they cooked for the industry’s top chefs during the Chef’s Table challenge.

Sat around the dining table eating their food were some of the nation’s finest gourmands including Atul Kochhar, Nigel Haworth and Michael Caines.
