Does Meghan Markle Deserve a Push Present?

Meghan Markle stepped out in public for the first time in over a month when she appeared at the Trooping the Colour over the weekend. The event was the first time Markle participated in a public event since giving birth to baby Archie on May 6.

Fans couldn’t help but notice that Meghan was sporting a very special piece of jewelry on her finger. Followers are speculating that this is a push gift given to her by her husband. But is that what this ring is? And if so, what exactly is a push present?

What is a push present?

If you haven’t heard the term push present, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Though push presents have become more popular in recent years, it is still not a widely practiced tradition in the United States.

Push presents are typically given to commemorate the birth of a new child. The present is given from the father to the mother, either shortly before the birth of their child or directly after.

While there are no specific guidelines as to what type of push present should be given, jewelry is a common gift.

Jewelry is timeless and is a sweet and meaningful push present. But a delicate ring or necklace is not always the go-to for some celebrities. In recent years, we have seen some pretty elaborate push presents.

In 2018, after giving birth to her first child, Stormi, Kylie Jenner received a $1.4 million Ferrari from boyfriend Travis Scott. Singer Pink also was also the recipient of a non-traditional push present. Her husband gave her a custom-built motorcycle after the couple welcomed their first child in 2017.

While push presents are just recently starting to gain popularity in the United States, they have been customary with the royal family for the past several decades. Upon giving birth to Prince Charles in 1948,

Queen Elizabeth was gifted a bouquet of red roses along with a celebratory bottle of champagne.

When Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed their first child in 2013, Kate received a beautiful pendant engraved with Prince George’s name. Two years later, Kate was given a pair of tourmaline, green amethyst and diamond earrings after Princess Charlotte was born.

After Prince Louis’ birth in 2018, the duchess was seen wearing a stunning citrine ring on her finger.

There is a lot of controversy surrounding push presents. Some view the gift as a thoughtful token from the baby’s father and a meaningful keepsake to celebrate the new baby. Proponents also argue that the mother has gone through a lot in the nine months of pregnancy and she “deserves” a little gift at the end.

But on the flip side, many people argue that a push present is just another marketing scam to get people to buy another gift. Some even say that the concept of push presents has been promoted by jewelers in an attempt to increase sales. Still, some insist that the gift of a happy, healthy baby is plenty.

The decision to purchase a push present should be one that is made with love and care. If it is truly something the father wants to do to show his love for the mother, than who’s to stop him. Whether Meghan’s new ring is a push present or not, if it is a gift from Harry, it is a gift that he wanted the mother of his child to have. And really, that’s all that matters.
