Cardi B Is ‘Sharing’ Her Best Rap Album Grammy With the Late Mac Miller
Sharing the wealth. Cardi B made history at the 2019 Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 10, when she became the first-ever solo female rapper to win Best Rap Album for her debut, Invasion of Privacy.
The “I Like It” MC, 26, decided to share her award with the late Mac Miller, who was nominated for his album Swimming after he died in September 2018 from an accidental drug overdose at the age of 26.
Cardi took to Instagram Opens a New Window. after the show to share a screenshot of Us Weekly’s article about how Miller’s family was rooting for her in the event that he did not posthumously win. “WE WON A F–KIN GRAMMY,” she captioned the image, adding five trophy emojis.
Miller’s ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande commented on the post with five black heart emojis.
Cardi also shared a video Opens a New Window. of herself celebrating backstage with her husband, Offset, and her sister, Hennessy Carolina. “I read an article that Mac Miller’s family said that if he don’t win, they want me to win, so I’m sharing this Grammy with you, motherf–ker!” she exclaimed. “Rest in peace.”
A source told Us exclusively in January that the Philadelphia native’s “family was so moved when his nomination was announced,” adding, “They are really hopefully that the Recording Academy will honor what they believe to be the most important and impactful rap album of the year.”
Grande, 25, was also rooting for Miller to win. She expressed her frustration in a series of since-deleted tweets that read, “Trash. f–k. bulls–t. literal bulls–t.” The pop star — who took home Best Pop Vocal Album for Sweetener earlier in the night, but opted to skip the show after a dispute with producer Ken Ehrlich — then clarified that she was not being shady toward Cardi, writing, “Nothing to do w her. good for her. i promise. i’m sorry. … that’s not what i meant and u know that.”
