Will Ferrell’s ‘Anchorman’ saved Boots Riley’s life

Boots Riley credits Will Ferrell with saving his life during a horrific bus accident.

Riley, born Raymond Riley, said during a “Storytellers” talk at the Tribeca Film Festival on Tuesday night that he’s a huge Ferrell fan — and that ended up helping him while he was on tour with his hip-hop group, the Coup.

“If Will Ferrell’s in it, I’m watching it,” he joked during the talk. “It doesn’t mean he doesn’t make bad movies, because everybody does, right? But I’m there. I’m watching it.”

Riley, 48, went on to tell a story of how he and his group were traveling on a tour bus with “‘Star Trek’ doors” that didn’t open if the power was out. He was going to go to bed one night in a section where the doors were, but luckily he found out that some of four of his friends had not seen “Anchorman.”

“Somebody brought the DVD on there and I said, ‘F–k that,’” he said, noting that he decided to stay up to watch the movie. While they were enjoying the flick, the bus went off a cliff and crashed about 35 feet down.

Everyone survived the crash, but Riley would have been in danger if he had gone to bed.

“So I always say that Will Ferrell saved my life,” he told the audience.

Questlove also spoke during the panel and revealed that he always thought that Kanye West would be the artist to surpass him.
