Mark Consuelos thinks patience would help Hollywood marriages

For Mark Consuelos it’s all about patience.

During a recent interview with Esquire, the “Riverdale” star, 48, said Hollywood marriages might fare better if people gave them a little more time because it takes a while to figure the whole thing out.

“I’m an incredibly slow learner, so I feel like I’m just getting it. Like ‘Oh, this is what you’re supposed to do,’ or, ‘OK, sometimes yes means no,’” he told the mag. “After 23 years, I’m just learning that—so no, I don’t think I could give anybody advice.”

While he may not feel comfortable giving people marriage advice, he does have an idea of what he’s talking about. Having met on the set of “All My Children” in 1995, he and wife Kelly Ripa are still going strong more than two decades later.

He continued, “I guess sometimes you see these public marriages end and you wonder, ‘Really? You’re going to quit now? It’s just been a couple of years. Maybe you should try to stick it out.’ It’s kind of great to have a life together with someone. Of course, I’m not supporting staying in a horrible marriage. I’m just saying, if you can, maybe wait until it calms down a little bit. Wait until the magic happens.”

Consuelos and Ripa also know that it’s not always good to act on impulse.

In a February appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” Consuelos recounted how the couple actually split up right before eloping in 1996. But the actor knew he’d found the right woman, and refused to let her slip away that easily.

“So I followed her in Central Park,” he added. “And then we went back to my place and we got married the next day.”
