Katie Couric writing a book because ‘she can’t get a job on TV’

Katie Couric wouldn’t have had time to write her autobiography, “Unexpected,” if she had remained friends with Jeff Zucker, the head of CNN, sources say.

Among the other painful subjects Couric, 62, will tackle — such as the cancer death of her husband, her battle with bulimia and the “Mad Men”-type sexism of network TV — will be her long friendship with Zucker and its bitter end in 2012, when he quit as the producer of her daytime talk show.

“When Jeff was leaving for CNN, she felt abandoned,” said one insider. “They came up together and had their greatest success together. But instead of being gracious, she was awful to him. She will never get on CNN.”

Couric’s memoir will be published by Little, Brown and Co. in the spring of 2021. “I wanted to do it while I can still remember everything that’s happened,” she said in a video posted on Twitter.

She has time to write a book because, having worked at ABC, NBC and CBS, “she can’t get a job on TV,” sniped another source. “She’s burned so many bridges.”

Couric will write about her experience working with Matt Lauer on “Today,” her rivalry with ABC’s Diane Sawyer, and, according to Little, Brown, “the time a high-ranking executive commented on her breast size in front of the top brass during an editorial meeting.”

The publisher said Couric will reveal other examples of the rampant sexism she encountered as the first solo female evening-news anchor at CBS and “the less-than-warm welcome she received upon her arrival from some of her colleagues.”

Couric said, “It feels like now is the right time to look back, reflect, and consider what I’ve learned and how those lessons might help others.”
