X Factor star Jonjo Kerr arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in her 20s

The 35-year-old, who was a contestant on the 2011 series of the ITV show was arrested in the pub he was running in his hometown of Chorley, Lancs.

But the singer has strongly denied the allegations, telling Sun Online: "It's all bulls***".

Lancashire Police confirmed it is investigating the rape of a woman in her 20s at a property in Chorley on Saturday, September 15.

The singer was arrested at the Imperial pub in the town centre in front of shocked drinkers.

It is understood the arrest took place on the same day as the alleged attack. He was later released on bail pending further enquiries.

Kerr has since left his role and is now living in a run-down flat above a beauty salon nearby as he tries to get his singing career back on track.

Asked about the allegations, he said: "It’s all bulls***. There’s no truth in it. It’s just malicious.

"The police have interviewed me and if there was any truth in it they would have charged me wouldn’t they?

"I could have done without it to be honest. But the real story will come out."

Kerr admitted he was “struggling a little” but insisted he was still chasing a dream singing career.

He said: "I still sing in local pubs and weddings that sort of thing.

“I’ve still got the voice and I’m still trying to get into the business to be honest.”

X FACTOR FINALIST PERFORMED TO MILLIONS

The singer, whose full name is Jon-Joseph Kerr, reached the finals of the talent show eight years ago in the series won by Little Mix.

He was mentored by judge Louie Walsh but was eliminated in the first round of the live finals after his performance of The Kinks' You Really Got Me was panned by judges.

The singer took over the Imperial pub in 2017 and described the career change as a "dream come true".

He said at the time: "X Factor was great but that was a long time and after years of indecisiveness I decided to fulfil my life-long dream to become a publican."

But he is understood to have quit the pub in December last year.

A Lancashire Police spokeswoman said: "Detectives are investigating an allegation of rape in Chorley.

"It is said to have happened at an address in the town on Saturday, September 15th.

"A 35-year-old man from Chorley was arrested on suspicion of rape and bailed pending further enquiries.

"The complainant is a woman in her twenties."
