Woman allegedly sexually harassed cop, broke into his station
A woman busted her way into a Pennsylvania police station to track down an officer she allegedly had been sexually harassing.
Surveillance footage obtained by ABC affiliate WNEP-TV shows 27-year-old Ashely Keister fiercely knocking on the front door of the West Wyoming Police Department before picking up a large cigarette butt receptacle and smashing the glass with it shortly before 1 a.m. Monday.
Once inside the building, Keister can be seen rummaging through filing cabinets, according to the footage.
Authorities say that Keister, a Nanticoke resident, was looking for a specific officer whom she had met back in May when he arrested her.
Keister had relentlessly pestered the unnamed officer with sexual advances on social media, according to West Wyoming Police Chief Curt Nocera, who previously attempted to put a stop to Keister’s harassment.
“I made her sign a piece of paper saying that she wouldn’t contact a specific officer like she’s been, sending him upwards of 20-plus messages a day,” Nocera said.
Hours after she vowed to not contact the officer anymore, Keister called 911 and told dispatchers that she was headed to the police station to look for that officer.
“She then entered the building, rummaged through the filing cabinets out in the borough building, tried to gain entry again by trying to kick the door in from the borough side into the police department,” said Nocera.
Keister was arrested for the police station break-in, but she did not go quietly.
When officers tried to cuff her, she swung at them, authorities said, adding that it took two officers to take the woman into custody.
The matter has prompted the police department to beef up security around the building.
“We definitely have to beef up security. Look around at all our municipal buildings, fire, EMS, and police to make sure that people like this can’t break in and get to first responders,” Nocera said.
Keister was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, burglary and vandalism. She remains locked up in Luzerne County jail on $50,000 bail.
It was not immediately clear what Keister was charged with in connection with her May arrest.
