White Christmas hopes dashed as bookies slash odds on WARMEST ever Xmas Day
Ladbrokes have reduced the odds from 10/1 to 5/1 that the mild temperatures will smash the 15C record set in 1920.
Sadly, the cosy temperatures are thought to be accompanied with rain as there is a 3/1 chance it will be the wettest Christmas we've seen so far.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: "Unfortunately it now looks like we're going to have a wet Christmas instead of a white one, but the country can at least rejoice in the warm temperatures on offer."
The Met Office said the mercury is set to be warmer than average and dry, with a balmy 11C in the south and 9C in the north.
However forecaster Martin Bowles said it unlikely to be the warmest Christmas on record – set in Devon almost 100 years ago.
He said: "It's looking like Christmas will be on the mild side, a few degrees higher than usual.
"The maximum temperature is usually around 9C in the south of the country and 6C in the north, but this year it's likely to be 11C in the south and 9C in the north."
The rest of today is set to be bright in the south with a few showers in the north west in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Tonight will be mostly dry until the end of the night when some rain is set to sweep over from the south west.
Sunday will be a wet day for most of the country across England, Northern Ireland and Wales, but those living in the Scottish Isles will be dry with sunny spells.
Martin said: "Christmas Eve is set to be cloudy and wet in the south of England and Wales, but anywhere north of around Birmingham is going to be dry and bright.
"Appart from that it's going to be foggy in southern scotland for Sunday and Monday morning."
"Christmas day will be largely dry but cloudy for most of the country. You might call it a grey Christmas rather than a white Christmas!
"A little bit of drizzle can be expected in western Scotland but that's it really."
For Christmas week in general it's likely to continue to be rather mild, cloudy and mainly dry and that will go on into the new year
