Warning to Lottery players ahead of this weekend’s triple rollover: Don’t get caught out like this couple who wrongly thought they had bought ticket that would have won them £182million
- Rachel Kennedy and Liam McCrohan almost won the Euromillions two years ago
- They had received a notification that their numbers were a ‘winning match’
- But they lost out because their account did not have funds to buy their ticket
A couple who missed out on a £182million lottery jackpot serve as a warning to players ahead of this weekend’s triple rollover.
Rachel Kennedy and Liam McCrohan, of Hertfordshire, almost won the Euromillions jackpot two years ago when their regular numbers came up in the draw.
But they were left ‘absolutely heartbroken’ when they learned that despite receiving a notification that their numbers were a ‘winning match,’ they actually had failed to purchase a ticket because the account didn’t have the necessary funds.
As lottery players chance their luck on this weekend’s £7.5million jackpot, the couple’s story serves as a stark reminder to make sure your accounts are in order.

Miss Kennedy, then a 19-year-old Brighton University undergraduate, was ‘going crazy’ when she learned that all of her usual numbers were picked for the Euromillions jackpot in February 2021.
But when she called up to confirm her win, she was told she that she had not actually purchased a ticket.
Miss Kennedy’s account was set up to auto-purchase her Euromillions ticket using her usual numbers of 6, 12, 22, 29, 33, 6 and 11.
Six weeks after playing the same seven digits, the couple’s numbers came in.
‘I went on the app and it said ‘Winning Match’ and I thought ‘Oh my god I’ve won,” Miss Kennedy told The Sun at the time.

She claimed that both she and Mr McCrohan, then 21, were in complete disbelief so she called the Euromillions number to confirm the news.
That’s when they learned Miss Kennedy’s winning ticket was not valid because the ticket payment had not go through.
Mr McCrohan said: ‘I was absolutely heartbroken when we heard the man on the phone say we hadn’t actually bought the ticket.’
The Euromillions jackpot that the couple lost out on had been rolled over five times and was ultimately claimed by a winner in Switzerland.
Numbers for the current £7.5million jackpot will be drawn at 8pm on Saturday. Tickets must be purchased by 7.30pm to ensure they are counted in the draw.
