Trump mocks Elizabeth Warren using Native American stereotypes

President Trump used Native American stereotypes to mock Elizabeth Warren’s weeks-old announcement that she will run for president.

Trump referred to the massacre of American Indians and used his favorite nickname for the Massachusetts Senator, who claims a Native American heritage.

“If Elizabeth Warren, often referred to by me as Pocahontas, did this commercial from Bighorn or Wounded Knee instead of her kitchen, with her husband dressed in full Indian garb, it would have been a smash!” Trump tweeted on Sunday night, along with a short clip of Warren’s announcement.

The massacre at Wounded Knee was estimated to have killed between 150 to 300 Lakota Indians, including women and children, during a battle in South Dakota in 1890.

In the Instagram video, livestreamed on New Year’s Eve, Warren introduces her husband after making her announcement to run for the Democratic nomination for president.

“This is my sweetie,” Warren says, referring to her husband. “He the best and I’m crazy about him.”

Warren’s husband is wearing a grey sweatshirt with a button-down shirt underneath.

Trump deleted the tweet about 45 minutes later, but posted the same sentence again with an additional comma after “Pocahontas.”
