Trump approves major disaster declarations for hard-hit states

US President Donald Trump has announced the National Guard will deployed to New York, California and Washington State in response to requests from major disaster declarations from the States.

"We have large quantities of medical supplies on the way," he said.

Trump's briefing comes as congressional leaders continue negotiations on an enormous financial rescue package totaling more than $US1 trillion meant to help the US economy steer through the coronavirus crisis.

There are 31,000 cases of the coronavirus in the US, and 340 deaths.
