Police pulled over a car with a family of seven inside on the motorway and found two children stuffed in the boot.  

The family were heading on holiday, police said, as they shared pictures of the car on Twitter. 

Photos appeared to show cushions, blankets and jackets inside the boot. 

Officers had stopped the Volkswagen Arteon following a report of ‘seven people onboard and two children in the boot’ on the M6. 

The car was taken off the carriageway at junction 20 for Lymm Interchange.

People were shocked to hear about the incident as police shared details online

The driver was reported for ‘carrying two passengers with no seatbelts and using a vehicle for unsuitable purpose’. 

North West Motorway Police said: ‘VW Arteon stopped following report of X7 people on board, 2 children in the boot. Vehicle sighted on the M6, taken off Junction 20.

‘Driver reported for 3 offences, carrying 2 passengers with no seatbelts and using a vehicle for an unsuitable purpose. Family going on holiday.’

People were shocked to hear about the incident as police shared details online.

One asked: ‘On what planet would ANYONE think this was ok?’ 

Another said: ‘Perhaps a couple of videos of accidents where people who’ve had no seatbelt on will make them think twice.’
