Pimlico hotel caves in to asylum seekers: Migrants end their street protests over ‘unsafe’ four-to-a-room policy after staff agree maximum of two will share

  • The protest is said to have ended last night with rumours that the hotel gave in

A Pimlico hotel has caved into asylum seekers’ demands over an ‘unsafe’ four-to-a-room policy as staff now agree only a maximum of two will share.

On May 31 around 20 asylum seekers staying at the Comfort Inn in Pimlico, south west London, camped outside to protest the poor conditions in the hotel.

On their arrival to the hotel they were told that four people would be sharing a room with two bunk beds, leading many to worry about their safety and lack of space.

However, the protest ended last night and the mass of people returned to the hotel.

Carlo Fraschetti, the owner of the Italian restaurant O’Sole Mio, which is right next to the hotel, believes the hotel changed their plans and are now offering two person rooms instead.

The 53-year-old said: ‘I think, from what I have heard, they have changed from having four people in a room to two.’

While the protest was going on, Mr Fraschetti made sure the group stayed hydrated and fed while they were outside.

He went round with water and food and even offered charging spots in the restaurant to let them charge their phones.

The 53-year-old said: ‘I took out some food and some water and let them use charging points and things to help in some way because its not their fault they are in this position.

‘They were all very calm and quiet outside.’
