Mum who drove with half-naked son on roof for 18 minutes loses driving licence
A mum spotted driving at 60mph with her young son clinging to the roof of her car, has been banned from driving.
Shocked fellow drivers were flashing and honking their horns at Erica Shadforth, but she carried on driving for 18 minutes, and claimed she was unaware the half-naked boy was on the roof.
At one point, witness said the four-year-old tot lost his grip, and almost fell off the speeding vehicle.
Eventually his mum stopped and put the child, who was only wearing his underwear, in the back of the car with two of his siblings, but he wasn’t restrained in a car seat.
Shadforth appeared in court in Perth, Australia and explained that she was unaware the boy climbed on to the car roof, while she had popped into the family home.
She then drove off, unaware the boy was on the roof, back in January, Nine News reports.
According to her lawyer, Shadforth was under extreme stress and was trying to cope with looking after her six children, aged between five months and nine years old.
He added that this did not excuse her carelessness.
She was banned from driving for three months and slapped with a fine of 1,200 Australian dollars – equivalent to about £642.
